Intercessory Prayer
Catholics believe that intercessory prayer, or praying on behalf of others, is a powerful way to express love, compassion, and unity within the Church. Rooted in the understanding of the Communion of Saints, Catholics pray not only for each other on earth but also ask for the intercession of saints in heaven, who are seen as close to God and able to present prayers on behalf of the faithful. This practice is based on the belief that all members of the Church—both the living and the deceased—are spiritually united. Catholics see intercessory prayer as a way to support each other in faith, trusting that God listens and responds to these prayers according to His will. By praying for others, Catholics aim to embody Christ’s love and serve as instruments of His grace in the lives of others.
